May PTA Meeting & Important Information Regarding QHST PTA and SLT Elections for the 2021-2022 School Year
Principal's Update - QHST PTA 2020-2021 - Remote Meetings & Special PTA Executive Board Elections @ Tuesday's (11/10) Meeting
Dear QHST Families,
I hope this message finds everyone healthy and well, and that the school year is off to a successful start for QHST Students and Families. In spite of the many challenges, delays, and all of the new urgent and important pieces of work that were necessary to get the 2020-2021 School Year started, I am excited to report that we are off to a successful start. We have finalized teacher and student, programs and schedules aligned to our Blended Learning Program model, for both in school and Remote Learning. Building on our successful work from last Spring Term, teachers and students have almost seamlessly reengaged in our QHST G-Suite Google Classrooms, which this year are being used to complement our new work of “Synchronous” (live) teaching and learning using Zoom and Google Meet. And last, but certainly not least it is important to report, everyone who has visited our QHST School Building, from NYCDOE School Facilities and Custodial supervisors to members of our Superintendent’s Team and QHST Staff Members, has shared positive feedback regarding the way that we have implemented health and safety protocols and procedures. We have overcome many obstacles over the past few months, and our work has truly demonstrated that when we work together effectively, there is very little that our QHST School Community cannot achieve.
One of our core school-wide goals for the 2020-2021 School Year continues to be to increase parent and family engagement, and improve communication and collaboration between our QHST School Community and our QHST “Home Communities”. In line with that goal, one of the major pieces of new work that we are focusing on this school year is to improve our school website, and truly establish our Official QHST Website (www.queenshsofteaching.org) as the “go to” for everything urgent and important related to learning and life at QHST. If you have not done so already, I strongly recommend that all QHST Families visit our website – especially the “20-21 School Year Info” section, where you can find everything from students’ Blended/Remote schedules to health and safety information. We ask that QHST Students and Families check this section of our website at least weekly, to find the most updated information. Additionally, next Thursday and Friday (11/12 and 11/13) we will facilitate our first Remote Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs) at QHST. While we started the school year about 3 weeks later than is typical, and we fully implemented our schedules for Synchronous (live) teaching and learning about a week or two later (schedules which as I shared above, can be found on our QHST Website), our 1st Making Period of the 2020-2021 Fall Term is scheduled to end on November 20th. That said, while the time period has been shorter than normal, Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences remain an important time for QHST Teachers and Families to communicate and collaborate in support of student success. We will share more information this week regarding how QHST Families can “register” for appointments to communicate remotely (there will be no in-person Parent-Teacher Conferences this Fall Term) with QHST Teachers during Fall 2020 PTCs.
At the foundation of an effective “home community – school community” communication and collaboration is a strong Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Please find our QHST 2020-2021 PTA Meeting Schedule attached to this email. Unfortunately, due to the many challenges that we all experienced last Spring Term, our 2019-2020 PTA Executive Board was unable to facilitate PTA elections for this school year. Typically, during May and June PTA Meetings, our PTA holds elections for the following year’s Executive Board and for the parent members of our School Leadership Team (SLT). That said, QHST Parent Coordinator Ernesto Isaac and I will facilitate this essential election process at next Tuesday’s PTA meeting. We will facilitate this meeting “remotely” using Microsoft Teams, and we will share a link for meeting both via SKEDULA/PupilPath Email Blast and via our QHST Website. Before we facilitate PTA and SLT Elections, we need to gather nominations. To do so, please find a Google Form linked here: https://forms.gle/PVz8i7mboqAkcXsRA . There is a description for each of the PTA Executive Board positions in the form. We have also included nominations for the three parent members of the SLT – 1 from each of our 3 Small Learning Communities (SLCs). QHST parents or guardians can nominate themselves or another QHST parent or guardian, and we will reach out to nominees prior to the meeting (on Monday, 11/9) to discuss the election process. Unfortunately, our current focus on health and safety, and the resulting need to facilitate most meetings “remotely,” has created new challenges that we will need to overcome this year. As I shared above, in the way that we have continued to achieve success in the face of all of the challenges that we have experienced since last March, I have no doubt that at next Tuesday’s meeting, we will lay the foundation for a successful year for our QHST PTA as well. If you have questions about the election processes or next Tuesday’s meeting, please do not hesitate to reach out to QHST Parent Coordinator Ernesto Isaac at (718) 736 - 7100 or email@example.com.
I look forward to seeing everyone at next Tuesday’s meeting and to continue to collaborate to improve our QHST School Community. I wish everyone and your families’ health, happiness, and success!
Mr. Ean Corrado

What is the Parent Teacher Association?
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is the official organization of the parent body in a school. Every New York City public school is required by the New York State Education Law and the New York City Dept of Education Chancellor’s Regulations to have a PTA in every school. All parents/guardians of children in a school which includes step-parents, legally appointed guardians, foster parents and persons in parental relation are automatically members of the school’s PTA. Because of their guaranteed rights and responsibilities, PTAs can be the most direct vehicle for parent involvement in the schools, allowing parents to serve as partners both in their children’s educations and in the schools themselves.
Our responsibilities as the PTA is to advocate for students and families involvement, update parents and families about the school, and finally plan and run activities for parents and families.
How do we help the school community
Our PTA can support the school by hosting parent workshops, organizing activities for families, raising money to support improvements in our school, and running volunteer events
